2016 RSC February Brown and Pink Week 3, H2H Nifty Nines Quilt Along

This year Angela at Supper Scrappy is hosting a "RSC Column Quilt Along". I'm making the lap quilt option that requires nine brown blocks. Pictured are those blocks as well as a wonky star block to add to my RSC star block collection. To see what others made with brown scraps this week, go here.

Sarah at Confessions of a Fabric Addict is hosting a "Nifty Nines Quilt Along" during her "2016 Hands 2 Help Charity Quilt Challenge". Pictured are my first eight scrappy 9-patch blocks using 2.5" squares. My plan is to make a child sized Bonnie Hunter Dancing Nines quilt with red sashing. Each month I make four 8.5" patriotic blocks for my quilt guild's Hometown Hero quilt project. I'll donate these blocks during Tuesday's meeting.
This week I sewed some blocks for my "Let's Book It" project. I hope to sew more blocks in the coming week and post a picture Friday. For more information about "Let's Book It", click the button on the side of my blog.

2016 RSC February Brown and Pink Week 2, Charity Toddler Quilt Finish

This week I added another brown and pink super scrappy pot holder to my collection. A scrappy brown boxy star block made it into the picture. To see what others made with brown and pink scraps, go here.
It's time to think about Hands 2 Help comfort and charity quilts. Each month I'm sewing guy themed scrappy 16 patch blocks for a guy themed charity quilt. I'll add these sixteen blocks to the eight blocks I made last month. I cut 2.5" squares from scraps and trimmings and store them in a plastic tub. Lot of scrappy blocks and quilts have come from that scrap management system.

My blogging buddy, Sharon, sent me a Dick, Jane, Sally panel. It appeared to be two four page chapters. I cut the eight pages from the panel, sashed the four pages of the "Sally" chapter in green and pieced them on the front of this charity toddler/baby size quilt. The other strips were 4" wide.

I sashed the four pages of the "Look" chapter and pieced them into the backing. This easy and fun strip quilt was quilted with a large loose free motion meander and bound with a white polka dots on black cotton print. It finished at about 40" x 46". I'll turn it in during my quilt guild's February meeting. Thank you, dear Sharon.
When I went to school, I learned to read using Dick, Jane, Sally and Spot reading books. My goodness. That was a long time ago : )

2016 February Brown Pink Week 1 and Two Doll Quillts

The RSC color this month is brown with pink. I have four brown 16 patch blocks from last year so I made two brown and pink and two blue and purple 16 patch blocks to add to my collection.
A thirty-six patch block and a very scrappy pot holder made it into the picture. To see what others made with brown and pink go here Saturday morning.

This year I'm making a doll quilt each month in the RSC color. However I didn't feel inspired to make a brown doll quilt this month. So I went entirely colorful, fun and scrappy. It finished at 19" square.

This doll quilt is for my great grand daughter. It's made with scraps from a quilt I made and gave her parents when they married. This little doll quilt finished at 21" squares.
