2013 RSC, June, Yellow, Week 5

After five weeks of playing with yellow scraps, I'm ready to play with another color. Earlier this week I used a coupon to buy a new tool, a 60 degrees Pyramids ruler. Several people on the internet are making quilts with 60 degree units and I though I might make one. I cut four 6.5" 60 degree pyramids from scrap typing paper and sewed skinny strips and crumbs onto the paper. Then I trimmed them to the size of the paper. This is a project I'll carry over into next year. I can also imagine a row of scrappy, colorful pyramids sewed into the backing of a quilt.
Three knitted dishcloths made it into the picture. I was able to knit two pink ones and still have a little yarn left from a ball of Peaches & Creme Bright Pink cotton yarn I bought at Walmart for $1.87. The dishcloth in the top row is from a ball of Sugar'n Cream Batik cotton yarn.

2013 RSC, June, Yellow, Week 4

This week I'll add four more 8.5" scrappy yellow blocks to my collection. I have a lot of  yellow crumbs to play with this week.
It was a busy week and weekend. Still I was able to knit two dishcloths, one with Strawberry and the other with Psychedelic Sugar'n Cream cotton yarns. I love to knit these little projects.

Donation Baby Quilt

Our quilt guild requests that members make and donate a couple baby quilts a year. I made the baby quilt in the picture using an assortment of 2.5" x 5" pieces of pretty fabric and some orange yardage, all sent to me by a friend. I cut and sewed some of the pieces into 4.5" four patch blocks and some into 4.5" two patch blocks. I used some of the orange yardage for a skinny border and most of the rest became the backing. The binding was made with some 2.5" x 5" pieces sewed end to end and I quilted it with wavy lines. After a go in the washer and dryer, the quilt finished at 33" x 33". I'll take it to next week's meeting.

Local Quilt Shop's Block of the Month, Blocks 1-6

In January, my buddy and I started a $10 Block of the Month Quilt at the local quilt shop where we bought our sewing machines. $10 for the year. We will be making 12 blocks of "My Favorite Flowers" by Lynn G. Hopeman. Each blocks is 12.5". One day each month we go to a meeting to pick up fabrics and instructions to make a block. During the meeting we are given sewing tips to make the block. In December we will be given the opportunity to buy additional fabric to finish the quilt.
We could chose batiks kits or Kaffe Fassett kits. We chose batiks before we knew that we had a choice of KF. We like batiks and KF. So it's okay.
Top row, left to right, January-Bird of Paradise, February-Double Tulip, March-Clover Blossom. Second row, left to right, April-Double Aster, May-Rose Buds, June-Chrysanthemum. The blocks are to be placed on point in the final quilt top layout.

Silo Barn Along, Barn 2

Pictured is the second Silo Barn Along block in this eight barn series. The instructions for the 6.5" block on the side were for four small chicken feet. I opted for one large chicken foot.

Fat Quarter Shop Quilt Along, Stars

The third download of instructions for this quilt is Stars. The first download was instructions and the second was Three Wise Gingerbread Men. If you want to join in, the Deck-ade The Halls button is on the side of my blog. We should finish this Christmas quilt top in September.

Beaquilter Sample Block Quilt Along, Blocks 1 and 2

Beaquilter is hosting a sampler block quilt sew along. Bea's button is on the side of my blog. She will post instructions for two 12.5" blocks each month. The instructions for the first two blocks are here.
I'm using some Stitch In Color fabric pieces to make these block. I want this to be a guy friendly quilt, no pink, purple or flower prints.

I won two patterns in Sarah's Hands2Help Charity Challenge 2013 quilt drawing. They arrived today. Lucky me! Next February, Sarah will be asking for participants to make and donate quilts for the H2H 2014 Charity Quilt Challenge.
