2014 RSC August Pastel Green Week 5, Happy Scrappy House Quilt and Rainbow Kittens Quilt Finishes

This is the last week of scrappy pastel green scraps and I'll add two 6.5" sampler blocks and three 5.5" coco mugs to my collections. Six crocheted spiral scrubbies made it into the picture. To see what others made with their scraps this week go here Saturday morning.

I quilted my Happy Scrappy House Quilt with a loose free motion meander and bound it with a purple print from my stash. This is a Bonnie Hunter free pattern from her Quiltville blog website found here.

I pulled some purple fabrics from my stash for the backing. After a go in the washer and dryer it finished at 80.5" x 92.5". I've been making house blocks for this quilt for three Rainbow Scrappy Challenge years and I'm happy it's all finished. I love it.

I also finished my Rainbow Kittens Quilt. Yah! The 8.5" rainbow kitten blocks are sashed with 2.5" purple strips. The inner border is a 1.5" yellow vine print and the outer border is a 3.5" purple print.

I pieced some purple prints from my stash for the backing. Used another stash purple print for the binding. It's quilted with a loose free motion meander and after a go in the washer and dryer it finished at 58" x 69.5". My colorful little kittens are sitting in purple windows, living in a purple house quilt.
It was an extremely bright sunny day when these pictures were taken. Sorry about the glare on the quilts.

2014 RSC August, Pastel Green, Week 3

It's been a busy week. Three nieces are visiting! We made Teeny Tiny Zipper Pouches with some Laura Burch Cat fabrics. Now we're making crochet Spiral Dish Scrubbies. They want to make mug rugs later this week.
I found some time to work with pastel greens and pictured are three 8.5" cat blocks and three 6.5" sampler blocks that I'll add to my collections.
To see what others made with with pastel greens, go here.

Pictured are July and August "Wishes" QAL blocks. They are 14.5" square. Four months/blocks to go.

I've been piecing Bonnie Hunter's free pattern Scrappy Happy House blocks for three years and felt it was time to sew them together into a quilt top with borders. It's a big quilt top. Bonnie likes big quilts. This top is something like 86" x 96". I'll measure after it's quilted, bound and has a go in the washer and dryer. Here it's on the floor sandwiched with some White and Natural batting and a pieced backing ready to be pin based. Will probably do loose free motion meander with a happy loop here and there.

A closeup of the top left corner. Lots of bright colors in this happy, scrappy house quilt top.

2014 RSC August, Pastel Green, Week 2

It's been a busy week. I made three pillowcases, two with Marvel fabrics and one with Star Wars fabric. I filled them with three new pillows and gave them to my son for his birthday. I forgot to take a picture, but my son loved them, called the awesome.
My 42 Scrappy Happy Houses are now a quilt top. The backing is done, too. I would love, love, love to have it quilted and finished by next Saturday.
Pictured are two 8.5" blocks and a hot pad that I'll add to my collections. A yummy orange knitted cotton dishcloth made it into the picture.  While watching tv, I crocheted more scrubbies.. Most will be donated to my guild's annual quilt show boutique.
To see what others made with their pastel greens this week, go here Saturday morning.

2014 RSC August, Pastel Green, Week 1 and a RSC Baby Quilt Finish

Another finish. I used the 7.0" scrappy quarter log cabin blocks I pieced during the first seven months of this RSC year. I added a 2.5" black on white inner border and a 2.5" dark blue outer border. The backing, not shown, is a fun, child friendly blue space themed print from stash. It's quilted with a loose free motion meander. After a go in the washer and dryer it finished at 38.5" x 38.5". This is a charity baby quilt that I'll take to my quilting guild's August meeting. I think it will work for either a girl or boy baby.

This quilt is also pictured in my 100 Quilt For Kids 2014 post entry found here.

Angela chose pastel green for August's RSC color. Pictured are some scrappy red 6.5" sampler blocks and a red scrap hot pad. Red was July's color. One of the red sampler red block was complicated for me and I replaced it with a 16 patch. Also pictured are a couple pastel green Happy Scrappy House blocks and a green 6.5" sampler block. A knitted dishcloth made with scraps of cotton yarn made it into the picture. To see what others made with their scraps, go here Saturday morning.

I wanted to learn to crochet spiral scrubbies. It wasn't difficult because I found an excellent YouTube video tutorial. After a few wonky spiral starts, I was making them like a pro. Because they don't require a lot of yarn, I'm making them using partial balls and scraps of yarn. I've given several away to friends. They say they love them. I prefer to use a "H" crochet hook and cotton Sugar'n Cream or cotton Peaches n Creme yarns. I'm making them for friends, family, and for the boutique at my guild's annual September quilt show.
