2015 RSC May Green Week 3 and My RSC Cocoa Mugs Quilt Finished

I'm still making fabric from scrappy green crumbs. The two 8.5" crumb blocks I made last week became a pot holder this week. Yah. I made two MORE 8.5" crumb blocks that I'll turn into a pot holder this week. Two 4.5" green crumb blocks and two cotton knitted dishcloths will be added to my collections. To see what others made with their green scraps this week, go here Saturday morning.

During the RSC last year I made 5.5" Cocoa Mug blocks using Lori Holt's mug pattern found in her "Quilty Fun" pattern book. This year I made twelve 5.5" scrappy string blocks to go with the mug blocks to made a colorful RSC lap quilt. The blocks are sashed with 2" Kona white fabric and 2" squares cut from scraps. The 3" border is a fun blue print. The binding is a purple on purple vine print.

To continue with the a RSC quilt theme, I pieced the backing with strips of fabric from my stash in rainbow spectrum color order. Red, orange, yellow, green, blue, indigo, and violet. It was quilted with a loose free motion meander and after a go in the washer and dryer it finished at 48" x 60". I'm happy to have finished this cute RSC quilt that was a year and a half in the making. I think I'll keep this one for myself ... for awhile.

Loving the mug quilt! What a great finish. You inspired me today with making a scrappy place mat. A little different from your pot holders but along the same idea. Must go grab my purple strips and make one for Emily now =) Have a great weekend Sheila.

Way to keep working at those crumbs. Love this mug quilt - super job. You need to put one of your rainbow quilts in the Blogger's Quilt Festival (under the rainbow catagory).

I can't figure out what my favorite part of your quilt is -- adorable mugs, lovely string blocks, or that back! I'm thinking that the back wins out just slightly. Perfect way to continue the rainbow theme. Lovely!

Love your Cup quilt. I've got a set of cups made during RSC a couple of years ago. I just can't figure out how I want to set them.

I love the layered crumbs. That will make a wonderful quilt. And the teacups are delightful especially with the square biscuits in between. And what a great back.

You must have a leprechaun multiplying your green scraps because you never run out. The rainbow cups are so cute and you did a great job finishing it.

I loved seeing your mugs last year when you were making them. It's nice to see them all made up in such a fun and adorable quilt. Excellent idea for the backing.

Hi Sheila,
I love your mug quilt! So cute!! I can see why you might like to keep it for a while :) It's adorable! Still not much sewing here. So very much going on and although I have had a few moments here and there that I could sew I just haven't felt motivated. I think when I am stressed I just cannot sit down and sew. I know most people use sewing as a stress reliever but I sew the most with things are calm and peaceful and not at all stressed. Oh well... things will calm down someday!! Glad to see you are getting lots of quilting and sewing done!
