2015 RSC August Black Gray and White

After using all my 16 patch blocks in last week's RSC quilt finish, I've started making them again. If I make FOUR 16 patch blocks each month of the RSC year, I'll have 48 rainbow blocks for a quilt next year. Pictured are four 8.5" blocks in black, gray and white.
The scrappy log cabin blocks are addictive. I made 12 more this week. They found their way into the picture. To see what others made with their scraps, go here.

I'm working on a challenge piece for the annual quilt show. This is my work in progress. The opened ended theme is "Tree". Nothing more. No rules except it can't exceed 36" x 36" in size. This one will be about 23" x 35". After much thought, I decided to use my newly acquired Dresden Ruler and make a framed Dresden Forest. I used this cute little place mat as my inspiration. I'm auditioned frame borders. Add some beads? Buttons? Birds? When it's finished, if I don't think it will work for the show, I'll just hang it in my house.

Love the black/grey/white blocks - a whole quilt of these would be fabulous. Do you have some metalic thread? Just a few large stitch rays to add to the background and then some beads in the trees - just a little bling.

Those black and white blocks are really cute up close. The tree piece just says winter to me, out in a clearing in the woods where little critters and birds hop around. Whatever you decide to go, it will be worthy of entry.

I'm seeing evergreens in winter woods, too. Can't wait to see what you do with it.

Love the trees, and your inspiration!

Black and grey blocks look really dramatic! A whole quilt would look stunning, but I know that defeats the scrappy theme! I like your trees very much!

I'm counting on you to put your challenge in the show!!! I know it will work perfectly for the challenge. I love love love what you have done so far. I have an idea but haven't started yet. Hopefully I can get something made!!! The 16 patch blocks are so pretty. Are you using 2.5 inch squares? Your log cabins are so cheerful! I love scrappy brights. You've had a good seeing week :)

That should be *sewing . I don't know why the autocorrect will not learn that I type sewing a lot!!!! It always changes it to seeing.

What a cute idea! I like that Dresden forest. Can't wait to see where you go with this one. It's always interesting to see how others are inspired and how it translates into new projects, isn't it?

Great RSC blocks. I adore those bright little log cabin blocks....instant cheer. Very clever to use your Dresden Plate template for the trees. It will be fun to see where you go with it.
