2014 RSC June Yellow Week 2 and Goodnight Irene Quilt Finished

After playing with yellow scraps this week, I'll add four scrappy happy houses, three 6.5" sampler midgets and a cotton knitted dishcloth to my collections. This dishcloth was knitted using leftover yarns, three colors.
To see what others made with their yellow scraps, go here Saturday morning.

I finished Goodnight Irene this week and I'm pleased with how it turned out.

In an attempt to use all my Amy Butler "Cameo" fatquarter bundle, I pieced scraps into the backing and a scrappy binding.

This close up shows the scrappy binding. The quilt is quilted with a loose free motion meander and white cotton thread. After a go in the washer and dryer it finished at 68" x 82". There was a lot of shrinkage. It's a wedding gift for a grandson and his finance. Their wedding is in two weeks. Goodnight Irene is currently making it's way to California via UPS.

Beautiful finish on Irene! I'm planning to make one with some fall colored FQ's once the kids are back in school. Pretty yellows in your blocks. Love how you sashed the houses in the bright colors.

Goodnight Irene finished up just lovely! The pieced backing and binding really complimented the overall scrappiness of the quilt. Lucky grandson!

The knitted leftovers dishcloth looks like a fun pattern instead of leftovers!

Congrats on your finish. It is lovely! and the back and patchy binding add to it. And it's coming to CA? Hurray!!! Your happy couple will love it.
A yellow neighborhood - cute and so cheery. Love the knitted cloth - very artsy.

Great work on the yellow. Love those little houses. Good night Irene turned out so well. Love the strip of colour across the backing. A perfect way to use up all those little left over bits.

You've been very productive... and every thing is beautiful!

The quilt will "relax" a bit with use and become slightly larger. But... nothing beats a quilt straight from the dryer in all it's crinkly goodness!

I am sure the newly weds will love your quilt. Love the scraps added to the backing! It is amazing how much quilts shrink after that first washing. I find wool batting doesn't shrink as much and is great when you don't want the quilting design to be distorted by shrinking. But I also love using cotton and the lovely antique crinkly look.

I love your bright and cheerful yellow blocks. Your Irene quilt is very pretty. I love the colored border on it. I finally finish my Irene into a flimsy.
