Tori's Been Busy

It took a couple of weekends, but Tori finished a square pillow and a doll blanket. She knew what she wanted to make, the size and the fabric combinations. Most of the time she pressed the foot pedal to make the machine go as I helped her guide the fabric under the needle. When she went home today, she carried her horse Quick Strippie, her square pillow and a doll blanket. She was very happy :)
Sorry about the quality of the pictures taken with my cell phone. Need a new phone :D

Myrtle Beach

A short vacation at the beach. The water and weather looked beautiful this morning :D
Because Hurricane Irene was on the way, we checked out and drove home. We were not alone. A lot of people were leaving the coast this morning.

Captain America

Earlier this year I took 2 granddaughters to JoAnns fabric shop. The youngest, 9 years old, wanted a piece of fleece with a pattern of large purple circles. It was all she wanted. I bought a couple yards, took it home and trimmed the salvages. She didn't want me to do anything else to it ... ? I found out last weekend that she sleeps with it every night.

So ... last week I bought some 58" wide licensed Captain America fleece at the local JoAnns fabric shop, trimmed the salvage edges and made a simple 88"x58" throw for my 18 year old grandson. Again, no finished edges. He LOVES Captain America. He LOVED, LOVED, LOVED IT! Said it will now be his snuggle blanket. His 19 year old brother saw it, said he wanted one, too. A couple more grandsons said they would like one each. So I went back and bought the remaining Captain America fleece on the shelf. In all, I cut four 88"x58" throws and two 58"x72". The shorter fleece pieces will go to the youngest two grandsons, both 8 years old. So easy.
Used coupons both times :D

Oh yeah! I'm still making pot holders from scraps. First pictures shows the fronts, second pictures show the backs. So cute! They are for me :D

Tori's Quick Strippie

Mary Johnson's Quick Strippie pattern with granddaughter Tori's favorite fabric, HORSES! Her sister, Hannah, helped sew the front. The back was pieced. Then it was free motion quilted, washed and dried.
Isn't it just darling :D
Thank you, Mary.

More Pot Holders

Front and back of 4 more. I've made 16 pot holders for gifts. Aren't they darling! Everyone seems to like them.
I'm learning to knit, something to do while I watch tv. I changed my knitting needle size three times in the middle of my first project. Will not post a picture ...

Last Day

Today I drove to Raleigh, turned in my state car, computer, printer, xrf machine, files, supplies, etc. A co worked gave me a ride back home. I'm retired. *sigh with a big smile*

Retirement Party, Plaques and Cake!

Since my friend Deborah and I were able to retire at about the same time, we shared our retirement party! A co worker, Warren, make me a Chocolate Cake and Deborah a Lemon Cake. We also had a sheet cake, half chocolate and half yellow with white icing. Yes. We had lots of cake!
Next Wednesday will be my last day on the job. Imagine me doing a Happy Dance!

Four More

They are addictive :D

Scrap Box To Pot Holders

The first picture is one side of the 5 hot pads/pot holders and the second picture is the other sides. They were fun to make :) I still have a lot of scraps.
They are about 7" square. In each, I used a piece of thin batting and a piece of special batting for making pot holders and hot pads.

News Flash! I'm sponsoring my granddaughter, Kayla Nichols, as a "Want to be a Quilter." Yeah!
