Rainbow Batik Strip Quilt Finish

This strip quilt was made using batik strips, some fat quarters and a layer cake I bought on sale at Connecting Threads last year. I cut strips from some of the fat quarters to make the border and binding. The layer cake had only 24 squares so I cut additional 10" squares from the fat quarters for the backing. I pulled the very light strips, fat quarter and squares to use in something else. I'm pretty sure I added some strips cut from the fat quarters to make the inner part of the quilt larger. This was a UFO for awhile. I sewed the strips together early this year and set the unfinished top aside until I could decide on the border, binding and backing.
The pieced back, borders and binding was an effort to use stash to make this quilt.
It's quilted with wavy vertical lines using variegated green thread. After a go in the washer and dryer, it finished a little shy of 53"x 70". Feels good to have another UFO finish.
I'm entering this quilt in the Fall Blogger's Online Quilt Festival here. Voting starts November 1. I hope you will go by and vote for your favorite quilts.

Four Blocks and a Quilt Finish

Blocks 7 and 8 of Bea's Sampler Quilt Along. I'm using Stitch In Color scraps and yardage for the guy friendly quilt. They are 12.5" blocks.

July and August blocks for Sewingly Yours' Flower BOM. One is a Pansy and other is an Aster. They are 12.5" blocks, too.

This quilt was made with our guild's Ebenezer quilt pattern for a 48"x 60" quilt. It's made with fabrics from my stash and quilted with loose meandering stitches.

And the backing was from stash, too. I think it's a young guy friendly quilt. Feels good to have a finish.

2013 Rainbow Scrap Challenge, September, Week 2

Another week of playing with light blue scraps and I'll add a scrappy happy house, a crossroads block, some 60 degree triangles and some 2.5" squares to my collections. Four knitted dishcloths made it into the picture. I made a couple more, but gave them away.
To see what other made with their light blue scraps, go here Saturday morning.

Two Of Our Quilts Won Ribbons!

Viewers voted for their favorite quilt in each of 8 divisions. After those ballot votes were counted, ribbons were awarded. The ribbons awarded in each division were first, second, third and honorable mention.
One of my quilts, my Bee In My Bonnet Row Quilt, won Honorable Mention! It was in the "Small Bed Quilt Division" along with 30 other quilts.

Cathy's quilt, Good Vibrations, was in the "First Time Entry Division". Her quilt won an Honorable Mention Ribbon, too!

My favorite quilt entered in the quilt show won "Best Use of Color", "Best Machine Quilted" and Second Place in the "Large Bed Quilt Division". A picture of that colorful, batik quilt was in my last post.

We were shocked at the BIG turnout for our guild's two day quilt show. It was the guild's largest quilt show ever with over 100 quilts displayed. There was a bed turning event 3 times each day. Each was well attended. Several vendors were there. One gave away a Bernina Sewing Machine. The guild had a little store were handmade items made by guild members were sold. We had a silent auction and a quilt raffle.

Several ladies attending the quilt show requested applications to join the guild!
I think everyone that came had a good time. I know I did!

2013 Rainbow Scrap Challenge, September, Light Blue, Week 1

We're playing with our light blue scraps this month. I love anything blue so this will be good month. To see what others made with their light blue scraps, go here Saturday morning.

This weekend is our guild's annual quilt show. We set up the room on Thursday. I entered three quilts.
My friend, Cathy, entered two quilts.
This quilt was absolutely one of my favorite quilts in the show. Oh my. I love this quilt. The lady that made it said she found the pattern in a magazine in 2005.
