2013 Rainbow Scrap Challenge, February, Purple, Week 4
Last week was a busy one, not a lot of time to play with my purple scraps. Today I finished up a purple and pink Get Your Mrs. Clause On charity doll quilt for Deb. Thank you Sharon, Vrooman's Quilts, for the reminder. If you like to make doll quilts, click the "Mrs. Clause" button on the side of my blog for more information.
A happy scrappy house block, a basket block for the Bee in My Bonnet Row Along and a blue and white knitted dish cloth complete the picture.

Nadine and Clarice Make Sock Monkeys
Because Clarice bought a three sock set, she was able to not only make a sock monkey but some sock monkey clothes, too. Then she turned a cardboard box lid into a sock monkey bed when she made a little quilt, a sheet and some pillows. So cute.
Same with Nadine. A three sock set made a monkey and several pieces of clothing. So cute! The girls did a good job. They are going to dress them up with earrings, bracelets, knitted scarves ....
It was a very good day : )

2013 Rainbow Scrap Challenge, February, Purple, Week 3
This week I pieced four 8.5" purple blocks, a 9" Crossroads block, and cut some 5" purple tumblers and 2.5" squares to use later. I love this rainbow scrap challenge! Go here Saturday to see what others made with their purple scraps this week. Because people link up all day Saturday and Sunday, I check Angela's blog throughout the weekend. Don't want to miss anything.
A couple ~6.5" square knitted dishcloths found their way into the picture. Had to show off my newly acquired and limited knitting skills. For these dishcloths I used Sugar n' Creme cotton yarn and No. 7 bamboo knitting needles to cast on 30 stitches. I then knitted rows of garter stitches. I like to knit while I watch tv : )

Stars and Camouflage Quilt
He said the front of the quilt could be anything but he wanted the back to be digital army camouflage. Because I couldn't decide what to do for the front, this grandchild has been waiting a year for his camouflage quilt.
I have a box of pieced red, white and blue 10.5" star blocks. So I pulled and sewed together 48 of them for the quilt top.
It looks good all quilted with horizontal wavy lines. The binding is dark red. After a round in the washer and dryer, it finished a little over 80" x 60".
I'll be making more red, white and blue stars for future star quilts. I still want to make one for his father. Hopefully with no camo.

Tori and Hannah Knit
Tori and Hannah learned to Cast On, Knit Stitch, and Cast Off. Hannah started a dish cloth and Tori started a second small knitted square. They left for home this afternoon with bamboo knitting needles and yarn.
Hannah was also able to make a couple Valentine hot pads/mug rugs.
It was a fun weekend :)

It's been another fun week playing with purple scraps. Pictured are four 8.5" pieced blocks, a covered note pad, ten tumblers, and several 2.5" squares.
Also in the picture is my latest knitting adventure, a dish cloth. I'll try it out this weekend :)

Last Knitting Class
Sadly my forth and last knitting class was this morning. I've had a great time learning to knit. Today we learned and practiced cable front and cable back stitches.
Last week we practiced rice stitches. We learned how to increase stitches, decrease stitches and made eyelets. Unfortunately on the drive home, I forgot how to make eyelets! I found some YouTube video clips of people demonstrating how to make dish cloths with eyelets and made a miniature dish cloth. Success!
There were four of us in the class. A good size. Our teacher was wonderful! We learned to knit some basic stitches and how to read very easy patterns. She encouraged us to start with some small projects like dish cloths.
I bought some cotton yarn and can't wait to make some dish cloths. Yah : D

2013 Rainbow Scrap Challenge, February, Purple, Week 1
I love purple and have a lot of purple crumbs, skinny strips and scraps. I pieced four 8.5" purple blocks to add to my 8.5" block collection. And I cut ten 5" tumblers and several 2.5" squares for my collections of those. The two purple pot holders were made from crumbs and skinny strings scraps. The back of one is an orphan block. This made a small dent in my purple scrap box.
