2014 RSC May, Green, Week 5, Goodnight Irene Progress, Teeny Tiny Zipper Pouches
After playing with green scraps this week I'll add eight 6.5" sampler blocks to my collection. A couple knitted cotton yarn dishcloths made it into the picture.
To see what others made with their green scraps this week go here Saturday morning.
I made extra blocks so my Goodnight Irene quilt top will be large. The white on black print I had planned to use for the border was too overpowering. The blue print is much better.
These Teeny Tiny Zipper Pouches are fun to make. Addictive. Pictured are five of the seven I've made already. Deby Coles' pattern is free. Her helpful YouTube video clip is here. Aren't they cute made up in Laura Burch cat prints.

2014 RSC May, Green, Week 4
This week I'll add four 8.5" cat blocks, four 7.0" scrappy string log cabin blocks and two 6.5" sampler midgets blocks to my block collections. A green cotton knitted dishcloth made it into the picture.
Someone asked how I organize my RSC blocks. I store my cat blocks, my 8.5" blocks, my 7.0" string blocks, my string triangles, my midget sampler blocks, my happy scrappy house blocks, my coco mug blocks and my finished hot pad/pot holders in individual stacks in a box that holds all Rainbow Scrap Challenge projects. Not very high tech. At or near the end of the year, I'll start sewing blocks together. If December is too busy, I'll work with blocks in January. If I don't have enough blocks for a quilt in a stack, I'll make more blocks during the next year's RSC. This is the second year I've made spool blocks, the second year I've made string blocks, the second year I have made string triangles and the third year I've make happy scrappy house blocks. Hopefully I'll have enough house blocks for a quilt in November.

2014 RSC May, Green, Week 3
I love green. After playing with my green scraps this week I'll add four 8.5" string blocks, four 6.5" sampler blocks, and a pot holder/hot pad made with a string block I pieced last year to my collections. A green/yellow/white knitted dish cloth made it into the picture. This is a five Saturday month so two more Saturdays of scrappy green fun. Yah.

Splash of Color Jelly Roll Quilt Finish, New Ironing Board Cover, Bag of Scraps Score
I bought a batik jelly roll called Splash of Color by Moda on sale a year ago to make a strip quilt. This week I cut the 2.5" WOF strips in half, randomized them and sewed them together end to end to make a jelly roll race quilt.
I pulled three batiks from stash to piece a backing.
It's sandwiched with White and Natural cotton batting, quilted with horizontal wavy lines using my domestic sewing machine's walking foot and a 3.1 stitch length. A pale yellow cream cotton thread was used for the top and a variegated green cotton thread was used in the bobbin. After a go in the washer and dryer it finished at 51.5" x 63.5".
When I was ironing Monday, I ripped a hole in my old, stained, worn ironing board cover. I took the old one apart for a pattern. My new one is an improvement. It's reversible with a layer of batting inside. I love it.
My mother and I went to a local quilt show today. They had boxes of scraps for sale. A plastic bag of scraps was $2. I scored with lots of precut squares and scraps perfect for a couple I Spy scrap quilts.

2014 Hands 2 Help Charity Quilt Challenge, A Quilt Finish
Sarah at Confessions of a Fabric Addict is hosting her annual Hand 2 Help Charity Quilt Challenge. You can read about her challenge here.
I'm going to send this quilt to "Quilts of Compassion." I used Mary Johnson's Quick Strippie pattern found on her website here. This has been a favorite pattern of mine for a few years. A good pattern for a pretty gift or donation quilt for a child.
This is a picture of the back. I used Connecting Threads' "My Little Farm" fabric collection to make the quilt's front and most of the back. Such pretty warm chocolate brown and mint green colors in this quilt.
This is a close up of the back of the quilt. It's quilted with horizontal wavy lines using my domestic sewing machine's quilting foot, a 3.1 stitch length and mint green cotton Aurifil thread. After a go in the washer and dryer it finished at 41.5" x 51.5". I want to thank my friend Sharon for sharing these fabrics with me. I can imagine a little boy loving this soft, sweet quilt.

This quilt is also in my 100 Quilt for Kids 2014 post found here.

Wilkes Quilters' Scrappy Mystery Donation Quilt Finished
We had the option of quilting each block individually and later sewing the finished blocks together using a "quilt as you go" method ..... Or we could sew the blocks together, create a quilt top, add batting, backing and quilt as we would ordinarily. That was April's Scrappy Mystery Quilt Clue. I chose the last method to finish my mystery quilt.
I pieced 12 soft fat quarters that my friend Sharon shared with me to make the backing for this quilt. I'm hoping my choice of guy friendly scraps for the front and brown and blue fabrics for the backing will bring a smile to some little boy's face.
This is a close up of the back showing a loose free motion meander. I used a red polka dot print for the binding. After a go in the washer and dryer it finished a soft 57.5" x 48". I'll turn in this happy child sized donation quilt at our guild's meeting later this month.

Triangle Quilt Along Triangle Quilt Finished
Happy to say my Triangle Quilt is all finished! I used beautiful rich Aboriginal themed fabrics manufactured in Australia. The back was pieced with fabrics I had left. Small scraps made it to my scrap box.
It's quilted with horizontal wavy lines using my walking foot and dark brown Gutermann cotton thread. After a go in the washer and dryer it finished a soft 49.25" x 62.5".
Thank you Sassy Quilter for hosting this quilt along. I'll be linking this post to her blog. To see other linkups, go here.
