Mini Quilt Along Fire and Rain Quilt Top

This 18"x 18" mini quilt pattern called Fire and Rain from "Simply Charming Minis" by Konda Luckau and Moose on the Porch Quilts, called for 36 charms. I chose charms from two packs of Moda Laundry Basket Quilts Batiks called Sunrise Over the Rainbow Batiks and Horizon Over the Rainbow Batiks. I attempted to create a color wash effect to look like fire, rain, earth and foliage while keeping the pattern's alternating zig and zags.

Was a weekend of family reunions so not a lot of sewing.

Rainbow Scrap Challenge October Brown 16 Patch Blocks

Another week of fun playing with brown fabrics. These 16 patch blocks look like boxes of assorted chocolates. I  now have thirty 16 patch blocks in rainbow colors.

Rainbow Challenge's Purple Sampler Quilt Is Finished

This purple 12 block scrappy sampler top was pieced in June. I finished quilting it this week with purple cotton thread and straight lines, mostly in the ditch when possible, on my domestic sewing machine with the walking foot. The binding is scrappy, too. All the pieces/strips/scraps in the quilt were 2 1/2" wide.
After a go in the washer and dryer, it's around 53"x 69". I like it : )

Rainbow Scrap Challenge October Brown Blocks

This is the first time I have played with so many brown fabrics. Because of this rainbow challenge, I am using fabric colors I have have not used in the past. Guess I could have made BLUE quilts forever. Also guessed that brown fabrics would be a color in this challenge eventually, so I bought some fat quarters earlier this year on sale. It was fun playing with all this rich brown fabric goodness! To see what others are making with their lovely brown fabric scraps go here : )

Rainbow Scrap Challenge 2012 Strip Quilt Quilted

All done. After a go in the washer and dryer it was 80 1/2" x 59 1/2". Almost 60" wide.

I love the scrappy back, all from stash. A close up of the quilting shows the strips were quilted with wavy lines and the large colorful squares were quilted with a meandering free motion pattern.
I used Superior Threads, So Fine #50 weight with a # 80 top-stitch needle and The Bottom Line #60 weight thread in the bobbin.
I brought the binding to the front so it would appear the quilt had three borders. I love this quilt!

From my stash I made a backing for the purple rainbow challenge 12 block sampler top I pieced in June, here. I pieced 3 extra blocks be go on the back of the quilt.
I'll sandwich the quilt top and back with Warm and White next week. May quilt it with unevenly spaced diagonal lines with purple cotton threads and make a scrappy purple binding from stash and scraps.

Camouflage Throw for a Grandson

Most of the fabrics used in the front and back of this camouflage quilt were bought at Walmart. The olive strips were cut from a pair of cargo pants from the Good Will Store. The quilt top pattern is based on Mary Johnson's "Quick Strippie" quilt. Thank you, Mary. This is a great pattern for a small quilt. I think I made the strips a little longer. And I sewed on a border. It was quilted with wavy lines using a walking foot on the sewing machine. After a go in the washing machine and the clothes dryer, it finished at 50" x 66", a nice throw for a child.
