2015 RSC August Black Gray White, Week 5 and a Scrappy Log Cabin Quilt Finish
It's been a busy week and all I have to show for the black, gray and white scrappy sewing is this pot holder. Oops. I forgot to add a hanging loop. Where's my seam ripper.
To see what others made with their scraps go here.
Quilt guild meeting was last week. I made four 8.5" patriotic blocks to donate. I also made a small child size Laurel Burch cat print tote to sell in the quilt show's boutique. Money collected will help buy supplies for charity projects.
My "Let's Book It" scrappy log cabin quilt is finished and I love it. The white sashing and solid borders calms the scrappy blocks. The binding is red with small white flowers. Their tiny centers are blue, turquoise, red, yellow, pink, and orange.
The backing is a happy yellow print. To make two vertical widths of fabric to work, I added a row of blocks for extra length. The yellow sashing between the blocks make them look like they are floating. After quilting and a go in the washer and dryer it finished at 66" x 85.5". Shrunk quite a bit. It will be difficult to part with this one : )
This quilt is a "Let's Book It Project" that I started last month. This post showing the finished quilt will be linked to Sharon Vrooman's "Let's Book It" blog post this month.

I love, love, love your log cabin quilt! And so many great projects.
You are doing well with your scraps. The log cabin is just fabulous and I love how you did the back.
The dashing, borders, etc on your quilt set the blocks off to perfection. Great job! Don't worry about color, August is finally ending. Can't wait for September.
The log cabin quilt is so pretty! You should keep your favorite quilts.
What a great finish on that scrappy log cabin! Nifty little pot holder. I'm sure someone will love that little bag. So cute!
What a wonderful finish! That's a great quilt! I can see why it might be hard to part with. Maybe you can live with it for a little while before it goes away?
What a great finish, Sheila! And those blocks on the back really do look like they're floating. Great idea!
The log cabin is absolutely terrific! Such a happy quilt!
Wow!! A quilt top last week and it's already a completed quilt this week?? Nice work!!
I do like the bright cornerstones and white sashing. I am thinking of the same thing for my star blocks. You are always so generous with blocks for your quilt guild. So many great causes.
Love the log cabin, and that you added a row of cabins to your back. It adds interest, and uses more scraps! Great job on all your projects.
I love Laurel Burch fabric so much! Such a cute tote bag.
I really like the back of your quilt too. I do love it when the back is just as interesting as the front.
Lots of pretties this week!! Hooray for a finish too. I was looking for the painting??! You are so talented! I dug out my pineapple blossom last night and made 5 more blocks. Nothing like digging out old projects to help my procrastination continue!!! I gotta work on my challenge today!, but now I just want to make pineapple blossom blocks. Haha! Hope you have a happy week my friend :)
Love your log cabin. You did a great job. Can't look at it without a smile... the colors are so cheerful. You should keep it.
Hugs
Congrats on a bold and bright finish! Beautifully done!
